Button-Shift.
A spin-off from the original Quickshifter
is the Button-shifter. Used
mainly in racing classes which don't allow quickshifters
(600 super sport etc.), the Button Shift consists mainly
of the control box and handlebar
button. Alternatively, the pass or horn button can be used
to initiate a shift.

The
Button-shift is very similar to the Quick-shift
in that it allows faster, full throttle, clutch-less gear
changes giving increased acceleration, better corner stability
and reduced lap times. Button-shifters aren't as easy to use
initially but once mastered should be almost as quick as a
quickshifter and definitely quicker than a conventional shift.
The handlebar button replaces the quick-shifter sensor so
has to do the same job in initiating the engine kill time
as the gears are about to be separated. To begin with, pre-loading
the gear lever just before pressing the shift button enables
a quick clean shift. This could take some adapting to after
many years of conventional shifting so best not to try this
in a timed practice or race! Eventually, it just becomes second
nature with no pre-loading necessary.
How
It Works:- The control box is constantly watching the
handlebar button (every 1000th of a second) waiting for the
rider to press it. The control box then cuts either the ignition
or fuel injection and starts the kill time. This can be adjusted
from 30 to 100 milliseconds (1000th of a second = 1 millisecond).
When the kill time is over and the next gear in mesh, the
engine power is restored and the control box carries on monitoring
the button for the next shift.
